What inspires you?
Maintaining focus and self-belief are core to business success. Running a business is hugely rewarding, but it also comes with plenty of challenges and at times, waves of self-doubt. For solopreneurs in particular, this can be really tough.
Last week we shared some insights into the Marketing Vision start-up story and the inspirational quotes that we’ve had designed for our new office space (to boost motivation!). The post received plenty of engagement and some really positive feedback – thank you all so much!
Over to you
We asked our community to share a favourite quote. And it seems that many of our small business friends also look to such quotes for inspiration, guidance and to shape their work ethic.
Here are a few favourites:
Victoria Hill, Digital Mum graduate and Co-Founder of South London Social describes her favourite quote perfectly:
“She believed she could so she did”.
This sums up my journey from redundancy through to retraining with Digital Mums, and then coming out the other side – working for myself and setting up South London Social. If you had told me back then what I would achieved by now, I would never have believed you. Digital Mums gave me my ‘mojo’ back and the confidence to set up my own business.
Karina Perdomo, Co-Founder of London video production company The Quick Brown Fox bases everything they do and their time management around a quote by Irish playwright, George Bernard Shaw.
“A day’s work is a day’s work, neither more nor less, and the man who does it needs a day’s sustenance, a night’s repose and due leisure, whether he be painter or ploughman”.
— George Bernard Shaw
Caroline Flowers, Co-Founder of London-based nutritional and health company Fig & Bloom, says just get started:
“80% and done is better than perfect and never finished”.
After years working as a management consultant I am programmed to finessing things to ensure they are suitable for corporate clients and it has taken me quite a while to change my mind-set. As a small business owner you have so much to do and little time to do it, so you can’t to afford to worry about everything being perfect. Obviously if it is a client report then that’s a different story, but spending an entire day perfecting a blog post for example, is probably not best use of your time!
Thanks to all our lovely contributors for sharing their favourite quotes. Something for us all to keep in mind when there doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done, or for when our self-belief is wavering!
