Our top 5 highlights of 2016
With the festive season here and 2017 fast approaching, now is the perfect time to reflect on my business year.
2016 has been busy – we kicked off the year with an exciting re-brand and photoshoot. Throughout the year we have worked on many interesting projects and met lots of amazing people along the way, including some inspirational early start-ups. It is truly such a privilege to be part of someone’s business journey, particularly at the concept stage when ideas are coming to life.
If I look back on 2016, there have been lots of great business moments and opportunities. But here are my top 5 highlights:
1. Visiting 10 Downing Street
Is it not every day that you get invited to Number 10. I was thrilled to be asked to attend a meeting with the PM’s Small Business Advisor at 10 Downing Street along with a group of 19 small business owners. It was such a fantastic experience and I never imagined I would (literally!) knock on the door of Number 10. Thank you Enterprise Nation!
2. Guest speaking for Country Living
Country Living approached me at the end of 2015 about presenting at their annual Spring Fair (March 2016) – I was delighted to of course! I then went on to present at Country Living’s first ever Build-a-Business-Day in London (May), and will be partnering with the Team again in 2017 as they take this amazing event around the country.
3. Writing for Country Living
In September, Country Living’s ‘Turn your hobby into a business’ book went on sale. It was very exciting to be part of this project and be commissioned to write several features. Packed with practical advice, top tips, how-to guides and much more, this book is a fantastic resource for anyone thinking of setting up a business and I highly recommend it.
4. Meeting incredible women in business
I am always keen to hear other people’s business stories, and 2016 has been an exceptional year on that front. Through various speaking engagements, I have been lucky enough to hear from and meet some truly amazing business women including Emma Bridgewater, Cath Kidston, Liz Earle and Sophie Conran. All incredibly strong, down-to-earth women with inspiring business stories and advice to share.
5. Growing our press coverage
Building brand awareness and credibility is essential for small businesses. This year we have started to focus on this a little more. We have shared how we bootstrapped our way to success with Forbes.com, contributed to a NatWest feature about starting a business on part-time hours, been interviewed by Careershifters, and profiled by Country Living in their new book and online. More to come in 2017.
We have lots of exciting things planned for 2017! We will kick-off the New Year with our new website launch, Marketing Vision HQ office refurb and joining the Country Living Team for their series of small business events around the country. Lots more to come, so stay tuned!
